Approaching retirement

From Surrey, and with us since 2019

Andy is 57 and is a director of a well-known retailer. He has two adult daughters who, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, are currently living with him and his partner of 12 years.

How did you find collperkins?

“While I’d had financial advice on specific issues in the past, I’d never appointed someone to do my financial planning on a holistic basis. When I’m looking for a professional, I always ask for recommendations and a mutual friend suggested that I contact Ian.

Even so, it was some years until we started working together; it takes a while for me to build trust in a person, especially when it comes to my life savings.”

How have we helped?

“I’d got to a point where I’d built up a substantial amount of wealth, but my pensions from various jobs were held in several different places and I wanted to get organised.

I was also conscious that following my father’s death it had been very difficult to unravel his estate and get to the bottom of his finances. I didn’t want my children to have to go through the same difficult experience.

I wanted to understand what I did and didn’t have and to put a plan together for the future. Ian looked at all of my pension and assets, along with my earnings, outgoings and very importantly, what I planned to do for the rest of my life.

He then advised me on better ways to invest my pensions and other assets and put a plan in place. The most important area of advice for me has been consolidating my pension plans and providing me with an easily accessible platform to monitor and control them.”

How have you benefited from our advice?

“It takes me a considerable time to trust people, but I have absolute trust in Ian – and I don’t say that lightly! His advice has brought me peace of mind and I’ve since recommended him to my friends and family.

The whole process has given me confidence in my finances, and while I love my job and don’t plan to retire any time soon, I know that I can retire whenever I want to, and when I do, we’ll be fine. And when my time is up, I know my children will be fine too.”
