Jane & her husband

Retiring soon

From Berkshire, and with us since 2017

Jane and her husband are in their early 60s. They have two daughters and have just become grandparents. Jane was a solicitor in private practice for 25 years before becoming a part-time teacher of English as a foreign language for adults.

How did you find collperkins?

“I had retired from practicing law and my husband was within a few years of retiring. He had been managing all of our pensions and investments, but we decided that it was time we sought external advice. We wanted to sit down with an expert, go through everything and make a plan for our retirement. My husband had worked with Ian in the past and felt he would be the right person to help us.”

How have we helped?

“Ian made us go through all of our income and expenditure and document everything. From this, he could show us projections and the income we would need from our investments. He analysed the level of risk that we were willing to take, then recommended the most effective way for us to invest our wealth. He also prompted us to update our wills!”

How have you benefited from our advice?

“I’d always played it safe with money. If it had been left to me, I would have put all of our savings into a building society. Ian has educated me so that I now understand why this approach wouldn’t help me to achieve my retirement goals.

Ian helped me to realise that we can afford to take some risk with our money. With his clear explanations at each stage, I’ve had the confidence to invest. I’ve really learnt a lot from him.

I’m a detail person, so I like the way that Ian goes into the level of detail that I need to feel comfortable. There is never any pressure to do anything and I trust Ian implicitly; that’s of huge importance when it comes to managing our wealth. He’s also someone we can speak to when we have concerns, which has been especially important during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thanks to Ian, we know where we stand financially and when we can both fully retire. We also feel more confident that we’ll have the lifestyle that we’re looking forward to in retirement.”
