Dealing with bereavement

From London, and with us since 2006

Lucy is a project manager for a refugee charity. She lives in London with two of her three grown-up children. Her husband sadly passed away suddenly in December 2018.

How did you find collperkins?

“My husband first started working with Mark over 20 years ago. I wasn’t very involved in the early years, as William had a far greater interest in financial planning. For the last 10 years or so, we’d been having joint meetings with Mark to discuss our plans for retirement. It was during one of these meetings that Mark recommended that we take out Life Insurance.”

How have we helped?

“Naturally, when William died, there was an awful lot to sort out. I suddenly realised that I had no idea where I was financially. I had a really strong urge to get clarity on my financial position as quickly as possible. I knew I’d feel better once I knew where I stood.

I contacted Mark within a few days; it was just before Christmas and he was incredibly good. The first thing he asked was whether I needed any funds immediately and reassured me that he would be able to help.

Mark reminded me that we had Life Insurance in place which covered the cost of our mortgage. And thank goodness we did; it would have been terrible if we’d been forced to sell our home, especially at that time.”

How have you benefited from our advice?

“Mark has continued to be a complete rock – an absolute star. He is such a kind and steady person, utterly trustworthy and reliable.

He’s very helpful and no question is too stupid. It’s not just Mark; the team in the office are lovely too and sensitive to my situation. If it wasn’t for Mark, I’d be a lot more anxious about my financial position – I have a feeling of security.

Now we’re currently in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, I know I’d be feeling a lot more worried if I didn’t have Mark as my financial planner.”
